Chamber welcomes recommencement of M20 planning process

The CEO of Limerick Chamber has said that the recommencement of the planning process for the M20 motorway between Limerick and Cork is a significant statement of intent for the project.

Responding to the announcement that Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) has received approval from Transport Minister Shane Ross to re-boot planning for the €800m motorway, Dr. James Ring said that it is the most positive signal for some time for the project.

“We have had the development of this motorway as a priority for quite some time and it was a central plank of our pre-budget submission. The message we have been getting loud and clear from the powers that be is very much that we should proceed on the planning side and get the way cleared there so that when it is formally approved and funding is available, we can proceed without delay.

““This is the most important piece of road infrastructure yet to be approved for Limerick. It would certainly turn our three cities more towards each other and create the type of cohesion that would game-changing for this side of the island and for the island as a whole.”
