Chambers Position on Sale of Aer Lingus Remains Unchanged

In a statement issued today (Wednesday, 4 February 2015) the presidents of Ennis, Galway, Limerick and Shannon Chambers reiterated their position as presented to the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport and Communications that critical air connectivity to all Irish airports, including Shannon, must be retained in any proposed sale of Aer Lingus.

“Until such time as we are presented with definitive information on IAG’s plans for Aer Lingus, via a formal offer, further commentary on our part at this stage would be purely speculative and not based on definitive detail. In the absence of such concrete plans and proposals we are not in a position to assess the opportunities or threats contained therein or to analyse if such an offer deals with the concerns of our members. Our position remains unchanged; regional international connectivity supports jobs and economic activity and we would not support anything that reduces the current levels of connectivity.”
