Minister for Education to Officiate at Limerick Chamber Schools Competition

23 Teams to Battle it Out at Limerick Business Thru’ The Ages Competition

Minister Jan O’Sullivan will officiate at a Limerick Chamber Schools competition Finals event at LIT on 27 February where more than 20 teams of business studies students from across Limerick will compete for top prizes from Dell.

Organised by Limerick Chamber as part of its 200th anniversary programme, the Limerick Thru’ The Ages competition has been made possible through sponsorship by Dell and the support of LIT.  It was launched last November and invited business studies students from Limerick’s secondary schools to submit a project on a business or entrepreneur from a period of time over the last 200 years.

On Friday 27 February, the 23 teams who emerged through the qualification process will present their findings to a four person panel involving representatives from Limerick Chamber, Dell and LIT.

There are two competition categories – one for Junior Cycle students and another for Senior Cycle students.  The winning school for each category will receive a Dell Venue 11 Pro Tablet. Second and third-placed entries at each category will receive a Dell Venue 8 Pro Tablet.  Dell tablets will also be presented as a special innovation prize where teams demonstrate a unique innovative idea for future businesses.

The winning teams will be announced at 1.30pm on the day.

The students will be joined by their teachers and fellow classmates.  Catherine Duffy, Limerick Chamber, Timmy O’Dywer, Dell and Dr Maria Hinfelaar, LIT will join Minister O’Sullivan for the opening ceremony at 10.30am.
