New Directors for Limerick Chamber Board

14 February 2013: Two new directors were elected to the Board of Limerick Chamber at its Annual General Meeting on 13 February 2013 following a member’s ballot.  Ken Johnson, Managing Partner of PwC Mid-West and Dr Mary Shire, Vice President for Research, University of Limerick (UL) will take up their positions on 7 March.  They will replace outgoing directors Brian McEnery from BDO and Kieran MacSweeney from The Discovery Partnership.

Harry Fehily, Managing Partner at Holmes O’Malley Sexton, has been re-elected.

 

Welcoming the new directors to the Board, Gordon Kearney, President of Limerick Chamber said, “Both Directors bring outstanding skills and experience to the Chamber Board which will greatly assist in enhancing the development of the Chamber and oversight of our new strategic plan.”

 

“On behalf of the board I would like to express our sincere thanks to outgoing directors Brian McEnery and Kieran MacSweeney for their commitment and contribution made during their term in office,” he continued.

Biographies of new directors

Ken Johnson, Managing Partner, PwC Mid West: Ken is an audit and advisory partner who leads PwC’s Mid West practice which covers Limerick & Galway. He has significant experience in providing a range of audit and business advisory services to both multi-national and indigenous companies operating in the region. Ken is also a member of PwC’s Committee of the Board, which is the Irish firms oversight group elected by the partners and independent of the Irish firms Leadership Team. In the past he was Head of Marketing for the Irish Firm and a member of the firm’s European marketing team.

 

Dr Mary Shire, Vice President for Research, University of Limerick (UL): Mary is responsible for the leadership, development and delivery of the University’s research policy, strategy and support services. Prior to this she held the role of Director of Research Support Services at UL. Before joining UL in 2005 Mary spent 11 years in the Pharmaceutical Industry where she held management roles in a number of multinational pharmaceutical companies. While working with leading US-based pharmaceutical company, Celgene Corporation, she developed inventions covered by 20 US patents for drug discovery. A number of these compounds are on the market in the US and Europe. Mary holds a PhD in Chemistry and an MBA. 

 

Harry Fehily, Managing Partner, Holmes O’ Malley Sexton Solicitors Limerick and Dublin: Harry practices in the area of dispute resolution and is an accredited mediator through CEDR (Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution) in London. He has significant experience in advising local and multinational companies, with a particular focus on high level contentious and board related disputes. He works closely with the Boards and CEOs of State and private companies to find effective management solutions to critical employment situations. He is Past President of Limerick Chamber and is also the Chairman of the University Concert Hall, Director of UL Foundation, a member of LIT’s Thought Leadership Group, Director of Limerick Social Service Centre and Director of the Mid-West Hospital Trust.
